The materials in this publication focus primarily on ways that teachers can make sure their everyday teaching enables dyslexic learners to succeed. They consider such factors as:

  • classroom organisation
  • the use of multi-sensory learning
  • the use of ICT
  • the use of memory strategies
  • ways of developing children’s confidence as learners.

Common barriers to progress in literacy and mathematics are explored in the context of studies illustrating effective classroom practice.

These materials provide primary schools with a series of staff meetings or an INSET day. There are four sessions on which to draw:

  • whole-school access strategies
  • teaching styles and approaches
  • literacy
  • mathematics.

Each session contains notes for the presenter, presentation slides and supporting materials – handouts and audio/video clips – and provides a library of additional information and classroom resources.
